As an education only reseller ScholarBuys has helped numerous institutions navigate Microsoft’s Cloud based license offerings for Project.
  • Project cloud-based solutions: are licensed on a per-user basis. You can purchase them as standalone plans or as an additional service with Office 365 plans.
  • Project Online: collaborative site that you can connect to with Project Pro for Office 365 – or just use the web interface within Project Online.
  • Project Pro for Office 365: gives you the control and capabilities of Project Professional 2016 as an always up-to-date subscription from Office 365.  Allows user to download/install Project Pro on up to 5 devices.  Can also “stream” Project on any computer.
  • Project Online with Project Pro for Office 365: includes Project Online and Project Pro for Office 365.
Think of Project Pro for Office 365 being the client application – and Project Online being the collaborative site that you can connect to with Project Pro for Office 365 – or just use the web interface within Project Online.

If you are familiar with Project Server, then you could think of Project Online as a hosted version of Project Server. If you want to look at portfolio information and resource planning then you probably need both – and a good article to review would be this blog posting by Microsoft’s Mark Sargeant.

Here is a good site listing the option and features (ignore the pricing as it does not include the EDU discount)

Project Online is free for both faculty/staff and students. Project Pro for Office 365 and Project Online with Project Pro for Office 365 are available for a nominal annual cost, student licensing is discounted.

All of this can be added to/through your Microsoft EES Agreement so contact ScholarBuys for pricing and assistance.
