Michael Heap attended a K-12 education roadshow earlier this month to see what is upcoming in technology and to learn how digital learning can transform the classroom.
Digital Learning in the Classroom
This event featured technology from manufacturers like HP, Microsoft, and Intel. The event went in depth about using Microsoft in the classroom and included a demonstration of a seminar offered to schools for free. Another session discussed print security in the education environment. Printers are an easy target for hackers to access a school’s network. This session was a powerful reminder for schools to change their printer passwords more often and make sure they are not so easy to hack.
Microsoft in the Classroom
This in-person seminar for staff and administration covers best practices for using the Office 365 applications with students in the classroom. This seminar is between one and three hours long and is a free offering to anyone using Office 365.

- Review of 21st century teaching and learning
- Hands-on demonstration of Windows 8.1 features, function and value for education
- Review engaging education Apps from the Microsoft Store
- Demonstration of Microsoft Office 365
- Hands-on demonstration of an engaging OneNote notebook lesson plan where the teacher shares the notebook with students and demonstrates the unique capabilities of OneNote in the classroom
Logistics:Â A Microsoft in the Classroom (MiC) Advisor will travel to your district with 6-8 Windows 8.1 tablet devices from multiple OEMs (Microsoft, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, etc.). It is recommended that there be 8-25 educator participants. It is possible to have 2 sessions per day. A registration sheet will be sent to you for contact information, requested dates, locations and any special requirements for the session. Your organization will receive confirmation of the event directly from Microsoft.
